BOOK ALERT- PEACE IN THE STORM: POETRY FROM THE HEART, FOR THE SOUL
NY, NY July 3 THE REVIEW: STAND AND BE COUNTED BY ELISSA GABRIELLE
If you've read Transbluency by poet Amiri Baraka, a familiar chord of poetical activism may strike a chord upon reading Stand Up and Be Shouted by Elissa Gabrielle. She's a new poet, whose writing style is confident, loud and impressive for a young writer.
Her words jump at you, beckoning that fearful soul to take a stand and literally be counted! She speaks for people of all nationalities, gender, creed and even alternative lifestyles with a seasoned voice with wisdom beyond her years, but are folks ready?
Her poetical words plunge at even the toughest exterior of souls who refuse to acknowledge that homelessness, overt forms of slavery and today's overbearing troubles from violence to murder in America's backyard still exist and can effect event the most well off people. If you saw the movie, Waist Deep, starring Megan Goode and Tyrese, you'll get the idea of the issues she tackles.
Elissa Gabrielle's perceptions of the world in poems like "Long Gone, Too Soon," with words like " Whatever the problem, It was not worth it, whatever the cause, you did not deserve it" cut to the core of human's emotions and draw the reader in to think about one's own existence and immortality.
