Book gives hope in face of disease

Jersey ties: Sasso grew up in Carteret and now lives in Avenel. Three of her four sisters had cystic fibrosis: one, Pamela, died in 1959 at age 2 1/2; another, Bonnie, died at 32; the third, Kate, is 40 and lives in Carteret. The family had two cousins who died of CF as children. The usual odds of developing CF if both parents carry the gene is one in four.
