Nick: A Young Hero Remembered
by Erin Hulshizer
The birth of our son was my dream come true. My husband and I had two beautiful daughters and now a son to add to our family tree. My life was just the way I wanted it, and I was grateful. Two years and three months later, however, my realized dream was shattered and my nightmare had begun. When our son, Nicholas, drowned in an ornamental garden pond in my parents’ backyard, I didn’t believe that I could ever feel true happiness again. I lived my days for our daughters, determined to give them their “good old days.” As I desperately fought to remain connected to Nicholas, I soon realized that I first had to strengthen my connections with God. Through faith, family, and a growing relationship with Nick’s organ recipients, I found the will that I needed to start on the path to my own healing and inner peace.
Reviews:
I absolutely could not put the book down. Erin did a fabulous job of bringing her tragic experience full circle. She has reminded us all that life is short and we need to be thankful for all that we have been given. Thank you for sharing Nick's story. - June Cruthis Clinton, IA
