I was born and raised in Diana, West Virginia, and attended public schools in Webster County, West Virginia. I volunteered for the U.S. Navy in World War II and was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa when Jap suicide planes struck the ship. I received the Purple Heart, and upon discharge I enlisted in the West Virginia State Police, where I served 20 years, 10 months and 17 days. I am married and have three sons presently living in Diana, West Virginia.
