BookExpoAmerica
2002 - Overview
We
are pleased to announce that three PublishAmerica representatives
recently attended Book Expo America in New York City,
which is billed as the "the premier event serving
the largest book market in the world".
Other
than staring up at the tall buildings, highlights of
the trip were the keynote speech by former Mayor Rudolph
Guiliani, dinner in Little Italy at Benito II, named
after Benito Mussolini, and, when we couldn't get a
taxi, a ride in a New York City licensed pedicab, which
is basically a bicycle hooked up to a rickshaw.
BookExpoAmerica
2002 - Pam Calvin, PublishAmerica Author
Also
at the show, we were privileged to encounter a PublishAmerica
author, Pam Calvin, author of False Winter, who had
traveled to New York City for the show, and had her
own booth!
Her
booth was among the most attractive there, with professional
looking floral arrangements, bookmarks, brochures, and
other handouts and information about her and her book.
At
the next show, Pam, lunch is on us!
BookExpoAmerica
2002 - Tech Stuff
At the show, we were welcomed by numerous vendors
and sponsors, many exhibiting new digital printing technologies
and publishing industry products.
Two
of our predictions from long ago were again confirmed
over and over at the show:
- EBooks
are still headed nowhere. It still remains next to
impossible to base a successful business model on
ebooks. People still want to read real books, and
will probably continue to do so.
- Digital
printing is heading up everywhere! Numerous, established
publishing companies, and printing companies all say
the same thing: If they're not printing digitally
now, they will be soon. The last show we went to,
this past February, had a two or three companies printing
digitally. At this show there were many more.
