Books
For Troops Update
We can now announce that the last shipment
of the Books for our Troops is scheduled to be transported
to the Persian Gulf area this week, before Memorial
Day weekend. Many authors have responded to last month's
invitation to donate copies of their books to the liberators
of Iraq, for a total of more than 1300 books. Earlier
shipments have already arrived in Iraq and found their
way into the hands of our soldiers.
We
salute everyone who has contributed.

States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

R J MacCurry, author of Fallen Angels
announces that Bruce Campbell, Bill "Superfoot"
Wallace, and Cynthia Rothrock have requested a copy
of his book when it is available. Bruce Campbell, actor
of the Evil Dead Movie Series and Brisco County Jr TV
Series writes, "RJ, Howdy, I'm not looking for
"material," but as a leisure thing, sure-you
can send it to me here..." In 1982, RJ MacCurry
was listed in the "Who's Who in Karate," He
was fortunate enough to meet several people of Martial
Arts Legend at the Battle of Atlanta where he fought.
Two of those people, Bill Wallace and Cynthia Rothrock
have requested a copy of "Fallen Angels".
Bill Wallace, a Karate Legend under the name of "Superfoot"
and co-star with Chuck Norris in A Force of One, Wife,
Kim, writes, "This is Kim, Bill's wife. I am sure
he would love a copy of your book :). He is not much

who handles business and booking for Cythina Rothrock,

Pennsylvania novelist W. Bryan Smith will make
an appearance at Dog Heaven, a pet salon in Elysburg
on Friday May 23, and Saturday May 24, 2003, at 10:00
AM. He will be available to sign copies of his novel,
Buddy & the Jack. Buddy & the Jack, an
adult literary novel, tells the tale of a blind mongrel
and a Jack Russell terrier, and their flight from a
pack of bloodthirsty feral dogs and animal control officers

Librarians and History Teachers welcome "The Wind's
Will"
Recently Nancy Vance Cooley, author of The
Wind's Will, presented six "meet the author"
programs along with book signings at libraries in public
schools in Garland and Tyler, TX. Librarians and Texas
history teachers welcome the book as supplmentary reading
for Texas history students. Although this is a western-historical
novel, It should now be listed also under young adult
fiction.

First to Sign at Pasadena Book Fair
Steven Paul Leiva, author of the recently published
thriller, Blood is Pretty: The First Fixxer Adventure,
has become the first author ever to be invited to appear
and sign his book at the Pasadena Antiquarian Book,
Print & Paper Fair, which will be held on May 31st
and June 1st. Leiva's novel, which is described as "The
Player meets the Saint -- as introduced by James Bond,"has
already won praise from one of America's most renowned
authors, Ray Bradbury, as well as from Academy Award
winning film producer Richard D. Zanuck.

Author W. Bryan Smith Award Recipient
Pennsylvania novelist W. Bryan Smith, author
of Buddy & the Jack, was awarded the highly
coveted Bruce H. Stanley Award for the Humanities by
the Humanities Division at Reading Area Community College.
Smith, a student at the school, was honored for his
work on the novel as well as for attaining the highest
GPA in the Humanities program. He will graduate from
the school in June. He is currently working on his second
novel, Starry Night, which should be completed later
this year.

Girl" Goes International
Mike Reynolds' "The New Girl" has been
awarded inclusion in Gender Inn, the International Women's
and Gender Studies Database, sponsored by the University
of Cologne, (Uni-Koeln) in Germany. Gender Inn is a
searchable database providing access to over 7,500 scholarly
essays, reviews and other nonfiction works pertaining
to feminist theory, feminist literary criticism and
gender studies focusing on English and American literature.
It's intent is to provide easy international access
for university professors and other scholars to currrent
works examining the social nature of human gender. A
review of and listing for "The New Girl" will
be included by the end of July, 2003.

Flowers and the Orb of Time Is Now Required Reading
Justin Flowers and the Orb of Time, written by
G.A. Mercer is now required reading for the upper
elementary classes at one of Birmingham, Alabama's premier
private schools. The teaching staff at Hilltop Montessori
School, after reviewing the book and meeting the author,
suggested that the book would be the first used in the
school's creative writing discussion class for the school
year 2003-2004. Each child in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade
will be required to read the fantasy adventure book
and write a book report about it. The author, G.A. Mercer,
will visit the school and discuss the book with the
students.

Wordsworth Booksellers to help promote Between Trains.

Reviews, Book Signings and Sales
The local Barnes and Noble ordered 5 copies of The
Cleansing by Cheryl Gitten-Jones for the
store Mother's Day weekend. Other Barnes and Noble store
in the area will schedule a reading in the fall. Cheryl
gave a presentation of her journey to getting her book
published at one of the Buddhist meetings and she also
distributed flyers and business cards to members who
were interested. Currently, Cheryl is working on her
website and other promotional materials. Cheryl held
her first reading May 3, 2003 in her old college town
at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley at Odyssey bookstore.
She has a nice turnout and all copies of the book sold.
Reviews will be done by Women In the Life Magazine,
Mohogany book club, Chicken Bones Journal, two professors
from Florida International University,UMASS University,
Epiphany online magazine and Desigold Magazine. Cheryl
has been contacting bookstores all over the country,
as well as bookclubs and organzations interested in
her type of work. The Library in Springfield, Massachusetts
is set to order her book as well. Cheryl has also been
in touch with the local media, as well as the local
CPTV program. The local newspaper features reporter
asked for her information to do a write up at some point.
And finally, the local bookclub wants Cheryl to read
and sign in October and Odyssey bookstore asked her
to return for their 40th anniversary events in the fall.

Kevin Sheehan, author of Should Old Acquaintance

signing on May 3rd at Womrath's Bookstore, the last
of the independents in Westchester, New York. Kevin

Evelyn Horan, author of Jeannie, A Texas Frontier
Girl, Book 1 and 2, is pleased to report that during
the entire month of April she has sent email letters
to Every library in the U.S. Included in the letters
is information about the success of the Jeannie books,
and professional reviews from librarians, teachers,
professional reviewers, published authors, children
and adults who have given high praises to the series
and the fact that a Best Author Award was given as well
as Children's Book of the Month at various Internet
sites and other honors. This task represents many hours
of research and careful copying/pasting of addresses.
Hopefully, this effort is being/and will be reflected
in the future sales of Evelyn's books at Publish America.

Todd Layton Eckard, had a book signing of his
first published book of poetry, Small Town Inspirations,
at Friar Tuck Bookstore in the Columbia Mall at Bloomsburg,
PA on April 26, 2003. Todd was also interviewed on local
radio station WPGM in Danville, PA and had interviews
for feature articles in two newspapers, The Danville
News of Danville, PA and The Press Enterprise of Bloomsburg,
PA. Todd sold 14 books at his first book signing.

Mary Ann Kerl will be signing her three books,

Federation and Sharon Ervin will sign her two

Contest Promotion
Zachary Weiner, author of the upcoming release
"City At Night", has designed a charity
contest in efforts to help promote hisbook. Readers
of the novel can fill out a voting form on his book's
webpage stating their favorite quote and favorite charity
organization. After an 8 month period the charity with
the highest number of votes will receive 15 % of his
personal book profits. After alerting several hundred
charity groups that they could help promote the contest
and book in order to help the cause of their organization
and promote the novel as a way to engage in a leisurly
activity and help contribute to a great cause, the repsonse
has been overwhelming. Currently, Zachary has fifty
nationwide charity groups that will be promoting this
contest and his book to their followers and those interested
in their organizations. The organizations are including
the promotion in their newsletters, webpages, direct
mailings and email mailings. Some of these groups include
the International Refugee Organization, Stand-up for
Kids, The California Foundry House, The Texas based
Nature Discovery Organization, Labrador Life Trust Line,

West and Jimmy Buffet music lovers
Bob Schlegel informs us that he will be at the
Jimmy Buffett, Orlando, Florida fan club, the "Parrot
Head Club of Central Florida", this week answering
questions on his novel, Command Authority. A
good portion of his action/adventure book takes place
in Key West which is a major focus of fan club members
and the earlier Buffett music. Copies will be available
with flyers on how to purchase Command Authority from

Springs Friends School in Olney, Maryland. This is in
compliance with the Legion's National Executive Committee's
Resolution 33, passed in May 2002. Brian will also be
reading excerpts from his book, ECHO! FIVE! HOTEL! and
answering questions about the part in his service in
the U.S. Marine Corps during the siege of Khe Sahn,
Vietnam 1967-68.

Web Site Hits
With limited time to market Command Authority,
Bob Schlegel has tried mass e-mailings to advertise
his new book. The first week saw over 1300 hits on one
web page and over 200 on his other page based on around
3000 mailings. Bob states it is a fast and inexpensive
way to get the word out to the public even if there
is no response to his site. That's a 50% response. Bob
had a book signing at Kate O'Brians Irish Pub in Orlando,
Fl on May 1. As the co-founder of the Central Florida
Parrot Head Club, members congratulated Bob on his success.
Several books were purchased, and several promised to
buy one. Members are tuned into Jimmey Buffett's music
and Key West where much of COMMAND AUTHORITY takes place.
Members liked that. A future book signing is being planned
for Urban Think Book Store in Orlando. Stay tuned.

Lori Zecca, author of Love Enough for All,
