Books For Troops Update
We can now announce that the last shipment of the Books for our Troops is scheduled to be transported to the Persian Gulf area this week, before Memorial Day weekend. Many authors have responded to last month's invitation to donate copies of their books to the liberators of Iraq, for a total of more than 1300 books. Earlier shipments have already arrived in Iraq and found their way into the hands of our soldiers.

We salute everyone who has contributed.

A book signing is scheduled for June 14 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm in ft worth, TX celebrating the release of From Day Of Birth by Marcie Kinkead.

In August 2003, Duane Ethington, author of Limpy and Black Hawk, will be inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

R J MacCurry, author of Fallen Angels announces that Bruce Campbell, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, and Cynthia Rothrock have requested a copy of his book when it is available. Bruce Campbell, actor of the Evil Dead Movie Series and Brisco County Jr TV Series writes, "RJ, Howdy, I'm not looking for "material," but as a leisure thing, sure-you can send it to me here..." In 1982, RJ MacCurry was listed in the "Who's Who in Karate," He was fortunate enough to meet several people of Martial Arts Legend at the Battle of Atlanta where he fought. Two of those people, Bill Wallace and Cynthia Rothrock have requested a copy of "Fallen Angels". Bill Wallace, a Karate Legend under the name of "Superfoot" and co-star with Chuck Norris in A Force of One, Wife, Kim, writes, "This is Kim, Bill's wife. I am sure he would love a copy of your book :). He is not much of an email guy, but here is our address... Jay Habakangas, who handles business and booking for Cythina Rothrock, Actress of many Martial Arts Films such as China O'brien, wrote, "RJ, you may send it to ...I will let her know about this. Max Power, author of Lightning Has Struck: A diary of life without dad, The First Six Months, announces that iIn the June, 2003, issue of the Connecticut Cruise News, a monthly newspaper with a circulation of 15,000+, there will be a review of his book. It will be available to the public on May 30, 2003. Additionally, Y105 FM, a Connecticut radio station, will make an announcement of Max's book signing at Borders Books on Federal Road in Danbury, CT on June 10, 2003. Y105 will also be present at my book signing beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Book Signing
Pennsylvania novelist W. Bryan Smith will make an appearance at Dog Heaven, a pet salon in Elysburg on Friday May 23, and Saturday May 24, 2003, at 10:00 AM. He will be available to sign copies of his novel, Buddy & the Jack. Buddy & the Jack, an adult literary novel, tells the tale of a blind mongrel and a Jack Russell terrier, and their flight from a pack of bloodthirsty feral dogs and animal control officers while attempting to survive in a sleepy Pennsylvanian village. Copies will be available for purchase. Dog Heaven is a full-service pet salon celebrating its first anniversary. In addition to the book signing, there will be a number of other pet-related activities, including pet portraits.

Harpers Ferry group book signing 5/24/03
Several PA authors will be doing a group book signing at various shops in Harpers Ferry, WV, on Sat., May 24th, 1 - 4 pm.

Terrence Kopet, author of Yellow baby announces that the large and welcoming atmosphere of " Coas, My Book Store " in Las Cruces, New Mexico,hosted a book signing for his novel, Yellow Baby, on Saturday, May 24. This is an old, privately-owned store that is a Las Cruces landmark and has, it appears, countless volumes. Also, Yellow Baby has been received well in this area and has been nominated for a local book award.

San Diego Book Awards
Dark Rooms by Siddharth Katragadda, wins 2nd Prize at the San Diego Book Awards for Poetry,one of the highest Awards in the San Diego literary circles. Books Awarded were selected from hundreds of books published in the year
2002 by San Diego Authors.

Barnes & Noble Book Signings
Kevin Sheehan, author of Should Old Acquaintance Be Rubbed Out, has a few book signings lined up at Barnes & Noble over the summer. Several other B&N locations in the tristate area are also considering signings.

School Librarians and History Teachers welcome "The Wind's Will"
Recently Nancy Vance Cooley, author of The Wind's Will, presented six "meet the author" programs along with book signings at libraries in public schools in Garland and Tyler, TX. Librarians and Texas history teachers welcome the book as supplmentary reading for Texas history students. Although this is a western-historical novel, It should now be listed also under young adult fiction.

Leiva First to Sign at Pasadena Book Fair
Steven Paul Leiva, author of the recently published thriller, Blood is Pretty: The First Fixxer Adventure, has become the first author ever to be invited to appear and sign his book at the Pasadena Antiquarian Book, Print & Paper Fair, which will be held on May 31st and June 1st. Leiva's novel, which is described as "The Player meets the Saint -- as introduced by James Bond,"has already won praise from one of America's most renowned authors, Ray Bradbury, as well as from Academy Award winning film producer Richard D. Zanuck.

Pennsylvania Author W. Bryan Smith Award Recipient
Pennsylvania novelist W. Bryan Smith, author of Buddy & the Jack, was awarded the highly coveted Bruce H. Stanley Award for the Humanities by the Humanities Division at Reading Area Community College. Smith, a student at the school, was honored for his work on the novel as well as for attaining the highest GPA in the Humanities program. He will graduate from the school in June. He is currently working on his second novel, Starry Night, which should be completed later this year.

"New Girl" Goes International
Mike Reynolds' "The New Girl" has been awarded inclusion in Gender Inn, the International Women's and Gender Studies Database, sponsored by the University of Cologne, (Uni-Koeln) in Germany. Gender Inn is a searchable database providing access to over 7,500 scholarly essays, reviews and other nonfiction works pertaining to feminist theory, feminist literary criticism and gender studies focusing on English and American literature. It's intent is to provide easy international access for university professors and other scholars to currrent works examining the social nature of human gender. A review of and listing for "The New Girl" will be included by the end of July, 2003.

Justin Flowers and the Orb of Time Is Now Required Reading
Justin Flowers and the Orb of Time, written by G.A. Mercer is now required reading for the upper elementary classes at one of Birmingham, Alabama's premier private schools. The teaching staff at Hilltop Montessori School, after reviewing the book and meeting the author, suggested that the book would be the first used in the school's creative writing discussion class for the school year 2003-2004. Each child in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade will be required to read the fantasy adventure book and write a book report about it. The author, G.A. Mercer, will visit the school and discuss the book with the students.

Excitement With Latest Release "Mystery of the Attic"
To promote her latest release "Mystery of the Attic," author TJ Perkins will be appearing at the Fullerton Elementary School in White Marsh, MD in front of 500 students. Since the relese of "Wound Too Tight" kids have been anxiously awaiting a new book by this author. Ed G. Rhea announces that his book, Harold McRhea And The Magical Pot is now available at Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Wal-Mart. Mr. Rhea will have book signings in Reno, NV at Barnes And Noble, Borders Books, and Walken Books. The book also maybe sold at 7-Eleven stores all over the USA. Two big movie producers are reading the book to see if they would like to make it into a movie.

Katlyn Stewart, author of Nightmares Echo has recently been in contact with the Associates for Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac regarding her book. The associate has stated in an email that he would be glad to forward the book to Ms. Nicks for her to read. Katlyn has sent the galley proofs to her, and is awaiting her response back. She will also send her a signed copy in the future.

Cynthia Rothrock, martial arts actress, will soon receive a copy of the book, Beyond the Black Belt by CV Rhoades.

TV Interview and Book Signing
Joe Leroux, author of Between Trains will be on the morning show interview on KARK T.V. Channel 4, an NBC affiliate on May 23 at 7:00 a.m. in Little Rock, AR. This television interview is in conjunction with a book signing on Saturday afternoon May 24th at Wordsworth Booksellers to help promote Between Trains. Wordsworth is one of the largest independent bookstores in Arkansas.

Guest Speaker
Toni Lamparter Mabry, author of Chance Encounters: The Story of the Innkeeper's Son, will be a guest speaker for Friends of the Library, at the West Memphis AR public library. The meeting will be held at 10:00 AM, on July 2, 2003. The public is invited.

Promotions, Reviews, Book Signings and Sales
The local Barnes and Noble ordered 5 copies of The Cleansing by Cheryl Gitten-Jones for the store Mother's Day weekend. Other Barnes and Noble store in the area will schedule a reading in the fall. Cheryl gave a presentation of her journey to getting her book published at one of the Buddhist meetings and she also distributed flyers and business cards to members who were interested. Currently, Cheryl is working on her website and other promotional materials. Cheryl held her first reading May 3, 2003 in her old college town at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley at Odyssey bookstore. She has a nice turnout and all copies of the book sold. Reviews will be done by Women In the Life Magazine, Mohogany book club, Chicken Bones Journal, two professors from Florida International University,UMASS University, Epiphany online magazine and Desigold Magazine. Cheryl has been contacting bookstores all over the country, as well as bookclubs and organzations interested in her type of work. The Library in Springfield, Massachusetts is set to order her book as well. Cheryl has also been in touch with the local media, as well as the local CPTV program. The local newspaper features reporter asked for her information to do a write up at some point. And finally, the local bookclub wants Cheryl to read and sign in October and Odyssey bookstore asked her to return for their 40th anniversary events in the fall.

Speaking Engagement at the Literacy Council of Frederick County
Dolores F. Howell, author of Stand Straight and Grow Tall, is speaking tomorrow night, May 14th, at the Literacy Council of Frederick County. The meeting begins at 6:30 at the Frederick County Public Library on Wed. May 14th. She will share her struggle to overcome her disability and her quest to have reading disabilities recognized and addressed in our school system.

Kevin Sheehan, author of Should Old Acquaintance Be Rubbed Out had a tremendously successful book signing on May 3rd at Womrath's Bookstore, the last of the independents in Westchester, New York. Kevin reports that he had a great time meeting and greeting people new to his work and handed out bookmarks and T shirts. Signed copies are currently on display in the front of the store.Additionally, Bram Stoker Award winning author Jack Passarella, author of "Wither" and "Wither's Rain", requested a copy of Kevin's novel for review.

Charles Cronin will hold two book signings for his novels, The Gemini Trap and Hill Games on the 6th and 7th of June. Jessica Project Movie Deal in the Works
Ocean Blue Entertainment, Inc. is negotiating with Thomas Farrell for the rights to produce a motion picture based on "The Jessica Project," a romantic thriller released last year by Publishamerica. Farrell and another Publishamerica author, Diana Hignutt, are currently collaborating on an anthology of short stories with gender-bending themes by published authors.

Marketing and Promotion Efforts
Evelyn Horan, author of Jeannie, A Texas Frontier Girl, Book 1 and 2, is pleased to report that during the entire month of April she has sent email letters to Every library in the U.S. Included in the letters is information about the success of the Jeannie books, and professional reviews from librarians, teachers, professional reviewers, published authors, children and adults who have given high praises to the series and the fact that a Best Author Award was given as well as Children's Book of the Month at various Internet sites and other honors. This task represents many hours of research and careful copying/pasting of addresses. Hopefully, this effort is being/and will be reflected in the future sales of Evelyn's books at Publish America. Her next effort will be to seek out email addresses of bookstores throughout the country.

Todd Layton Eckard, had a book signing of his first published book of poetry, Small Town Inspirations, at Friar Tuck Bookstore in the Columbia Mall at Bloomsburg, PA on April 26, 2003. Todd was also interviewed on local radio station WPGM in Danville, PA and had interviews for feature articles in two newspapers, The Danville News of Danville, PA and The Press Enterprise of Bloomsburg, PA. Todd sold 14 books at his first book signing.

Book Signings at Oklahoma Writer's Federation
Mary Ann Kerl will be signing her three books, published by PublishAmerica, at the Oklahoma Writer's Federation and Sharon Ervin will sign her two published by PublishAmerica. Kerl's books are: The Proposal, a Christian romance, The Secret, a middle-reader mystery, and Janessa Clues to the Cabin Mystery for young adults. Ervin's books are: Bodacious and Jusu & Mother Earth. The conference attracts about 250 to 300 attendees every year and is held in Oklahoma City. The Federation has about 700 members and has become well-known for attracting editors from New York for speakers.

Stephen Lodge, author of Shadows of Eagles, will be be interviewed, May 1st, regarding his book, by Craig Michaels of KPSP CBS-2, for airing next week on KPSPs "In the Limelight."

Charity Contest Promotion
Zachary Weiner, author of the upcoming release "City At Night", has designed a charity contest in efforts to help promote hisbook. Readers of the novel can fill out a voting form on his book's webpage stating their favorite quote and favorite charity organization. After an 8 month period the charity with the highest number of votes will receive 15 % of his personal book profits. After alerting several hundred charity groups that they could help promote the contest and book in order to help the cause of their organization and promote the novel as a way to engage in a leisurly activity and help contribute to a great cause, the repsonse has been overwhelming. Currently, Zachary has fifty nationwide charity groups that will be promoting this contest and his book to their followers and those interested in their organizations. The organizations are including the promotion in their newsletters, webpages, direct mailings and email mailings. Some of these groups include the International Refugee Organization, Stand-up for Kids, The California Foundry House, The Texas based Nature Discovery Organization, Labrador Life Trust Line, Help-A-Vet, Second Harvest, The Northwoods Organization. Volunteer Match, Australias Taronga Foundation, ...and the list goes on.

Key West and Jimmy Buffet music lovers
Bob Schlegel informs us that he will be at the Jimmy Buffett, Orlando, Florida fan club, the "Parrot Head Club of Central Florida", this week answering questions on his novel, Command Authority. A good portion of his action/adventure book takes place in Key West which is a major focus of fan club members and the earlier Buffett music. Copies will be available with flyers on how to purchase Command Authority from Publish America.

MJ Ross, author of The Maleficent Maestro, has been invited for a book signing at Borders. The book signing will be June 7th from 1-3 p.m. It will take place at the Borders on 81st and Yale in Tulsa, OK. The store will display books and information about the upcoming event May thru June.

Classroom Presentation
Brian A. Hartford, author of Echo! Five! Hotel! is pleased to report that he will be conducting the American Legion "American's Veterans" video and classroom presentation on May 7, 2003 at the Sunny Springs Friends School in Olney, Maryland. This is in compliance with the Legion's National Executive Committee's Resolution 33, passed in May 2002. Brian will also be reading excerpts from his book, ECHO! FIVE! HOTEL! and answering questions about the part in his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the siege of Khe Sahn, Vietnam 1967-68.

Successful Web Site Hits
With limited time to market Command Authority, Bob Schlegel has tried mass e-mailings to advertise his new book. The first week saw over 1300 hits on one web page and over 200 on his other page based on around 3000 mailings. Bob states it is a fast and inexpensive way to get the word out to the public even if there is no response to his site. That's a 50% response. Bob had a book signing at Kate O'Brians Irish Pub in Orlando, Fl on May 1. As the co-founder of the Central Florida Parrot Head Club, members congratulated Bob on his success. Several books were purchased, and several promised to buy one. Members are tuned into Jimmey Buffett's music and Key West where much of COMMAND AUTHORITY takes place. Members liked that. A future book signing is being planned for Urban Think Book Store in Orlando. Stay tuned.

He was invited to the annual Friends of the Library May Tea by director Faye Schmitt of Altoona. Debut Book Signing
First of its kind book signing in San Diego. On June 7, author Kip Ives' book, Particulars of the Promiscuous will have its debut signing at Dancers, an adult nightclub in San Diego, California. Particulars of the Promiscuous is a sexual satire of panoramic proportions. 2 Signing Events for "The New Girl"
Two full months before it's scheduled release date of May 31, Mike Reynolds has already secured two signing/reading events for his latest book, "The New Girl". Scheduled for September, 2003, Reynolds will be reading from his book both at the Meriden Public Library in Meriden, CT, and at the Atticus Bookstore on the Yale Campus in New Haven, CT.
