Event at Borders

Worldwide broadcast exposure
On Friday, Sept. 5, C. Lee Dravis' second novel "Burning Books on Fenwick Street" was plugged by host Larry London on the Voice of America's live program "Border Crossings". During the segment, Larry (literally) invited the whole world to the "Burning Books Party" the following weekend in Virginia. The VOA broadcasts worldwide on satellite, AM/FM, the Internet and short-wave and is heard by an estimated 30 million listeners daily.

Book Signings
First Daughters' Jewels author Sara L. G. Ruffini will be at the following events and locations for book signings. On Saturday, September 20, Ms. Ruffini will be at the Baltimore Book Festival, Baltimore, MD at booth E 10 from 11 am to 7 pm. The following weekend, Saturday, September 27, the Reston Used Book Shop at Lake Anne, Reston, VA will host a book signing at 3:00 pm. The Carroll Community College Foundation will hold a book fair to benefit the Carroll Community College in Westminster, MD on Saturday, November 8 and Ms. Ruffini will be available after 1:00 pm. to sign copies of her book. Copies of First Daughters' Jewels will be available at all of these events for purchase.

Annual Air Force Master Drill Instructor convention
Joe "Tuffy" Tofuri, author of The Ninth Commandment, and retired Air Force Drill Instructor, has been selected to be the guest speaker at the Air Force Master Drill Instructor convention in San Antonio, TX, October 24th, on awards night. Air Force Master Drill Instructors comprise only 10% of the total instructor corps, and are so designated by wearing a "blue rope" around the crown of their campaign hats. Joe Tofuri was among the small group of Drill Instructors who were initially awarded this distinction in 1975. He was a drill instructor in the 60's, 70's and 80's. His latest manuscript, Tuffy's Heroes, is all about Air Force basic training during the Vietnam war.

Moments of Awakening
Jack has posted an author's web site where he presents his basic philosophy, a synopsis and the first two chapters of Tasting the White Water, and a synopsis and a chapter from his unpublished novel Sunday Mornings.

Diana Hignutt on cover of the Philadelphia Weekly
Diana Hignutt, author of Moonsword, along with her wife Liz, were featured as the August 20th edition of the Philadelphia Weekly's Cover Story "A More Perfect Union". In the in-depth interview, Diana and Liz talked about the survival and strengthening of their marriage after Diana's Gender Reassignment, their deep love and commitment to each other, political issues involved in Same-Sex marriages, and, of course, Moonsword, the gender-bending fantasy novel about a prince who is transformed into a woman to battle a demon.

Tea with the Authors
Cynthia Mills will be the Guest Author on December 7th for the "Tea with the Authors" Series hosted by Lakeland Community College in Kirtland Ohio. This series provides participants with the chance to enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea followed by an hour of lively discussion with the author about her book, Missing, Believed Killed. The December 7th event will be held at Lady Charlton's Tea Rooms in Wiloughby, Ohio.

Celebration Honoring Author
On Thursday, April 24, 2003 the Vidalia Writers Club honored Jeanelle B. Jennings for having her book, "Season Out of Season" accepted for publication. The novel has a broad-scope depiction of southern living especially during the years of World War II. This is her first novel. She is working on another one.

Shadow Lover and author featured on The Romance Studio website!
It has come to our attention that the hot, sizzling Paranormal Romance, Shadow Lover, written by one our own authors, Audrey Godwin is being featured on The Romance Studio website (Blue Section) for the whole month of September. There you will find a list of Audrey's other books, an interview, and later on in the month, a drawing. For the lucky winner the prize will be a free autographed copy of Shadow Lover.

Roaring River Author of Boone Based Novel Holds Book Signing at Waldenbooks in Boone, NC.
Stephanie Simpson-Woods, author of the novel “I.M. Internet Message” will be holding her first book signing at the Waldenbooks in Boone, NC Saturday, September 20th from 2-5pm. The Internet-vampire novel that Stephanie set in the small fictional town of Brandley and was based on both Boone and Appalachian State University has been receiving numerous excellent reviews and has been causing quite a stir for horror fans as far away as Australia. Along with her signature, she will be giving out free signed copies of her popular short story, “Perhaps I’m Not Dark Enough”.

Fallen Angels Keeps Rising
August 30, 2003; RJ MacCurry did a book signing in the Waldenbooks Store in Greensboro, NC. The signing sold more than half of the copies that the store had on hand. Fallen Angels was the best seller of the week for the store in Greensboro, NC. The book moved from the Sale's Ranking of 625,411 on Barnes and Noble on 08-18-2003 to the Sale's Ranking of 354,420 on 08-29-2003 before selling out on 09-01-2003. This is an increase of about 176%.

Book Signing
The book signing that Alex LeSueur had this past Saturday at Hastings Books in Denton, Texas, was a total success. Even though he sold less books than he hoped, he considered it a success if only one book was signed and sold. He was kept busy with customers stopping by his table and talking about writing. Several young students stopped by his table and asked him questions about writing and how a book is published. He is eagerly looking forward to his next book signing in another Hastings Books store in a nearby town next Saturday. He also has a signing on Sept. 27 at the Hastings Books store in Mt. Pleasant, Texas from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. He also wants to get a list of writers in north Texas, to see about having a signing mini-festival at a centrally located book store possibly in the Dallas area.

Paz-Martinez to read, sign at Border gathering
Publish America author Eduardo Paz-Martinez travels to the Texas-Mexico border, the setting for his two books, on September 20-21 to read from his latest novel, The Rain in Spain. Mr. Paz-Martinez will be welcomed by the prestigious Casa Petrina Museum in Brownsville for a dual reading & signing. Paz-Martinez's first book for PA was Inside the Volcano (2001).

Craft Fair to Host Book Signing for Ellen M. DuBois
Homespun Treasures, located in historic North Easton, MA, known throughout the state as a destination home decor and gift shop, has invited local resident Ellen M. DuBois, author of Jackie's Heart, to hold a book signing from 12-5 at their craft fair on Sunday, September 14, 2003. Ms. DuBois will have her own table and is looking forward to meeting readers and signing books. This will be a fun day of outdoor activity, beautiful craft displays, and includes the unveiling of a new home decor section in the store. A large crowd is expected to attend. Rain date- Sunday, September 21, 2003.

Book Signing
Reception and booksigning held at two locations 22 August and 23 August. Over two hundred guests were part of the weekends events at the two locations hosted to promote the authors book and over 50 books were sold during the Friday evening gala alone. The reception was held at the Performing Arts Center in Selma and the booksigning was held at the Faith Christian Gallery.

TV Interview
Richard Alan Nelson was recently interviewed on "Living", Channel Four in San Antonio, Texas. The show is a local variation of "Good Morning America" and airs in all of South Texas, a viewing audience of over 750,000. Richard Alan was quizzed about his books, the writing process and the state of the publishing industry in today's marketplace.

PA writer listed in Marquis Who's Who in America
Claudia Turner VanLydegraf has been honored by inclusion into "Marquis Who's Who in America" for the 2004 edition. Her book is titled "Notes from Nobody" and was published by AmErica House, in 2001. "Notes from Nobody" is by a birthmother about the finding of, and all the ramifications around, her two sons given up for adoption when they were infants in the 60s. The book tells about the lives of each and some of the expectations that follow them after being reunited. It is a poignant reminder that the love of a Mother never goes away, and the needs of children are always there, no matter how old those children may be.

Book Club Selects Jackie's Heart as its First Read
A new Book Club forming in Bridgewater, MA, has selected Ellen M. DuBois' novel, Jackie's Heart, as its first book read. Ms. DuBois has been invited to attend on September 24, 2003, and will participate in a book signing after a reader feedback period followed by an author question and answer session. Refreshments will be served. Ms. DuBois is delighted to have been chosen as the Book Club's first book read, and gladly accepted the honor!

Book Ends to Host Author in Massachusetts
Tony Savageau, author of A Wild Bunch Adventure: The Mystery of the Golden Skate, will be attending a book signing event with the book's illustrator, JoAnne Raditz. Cindy Bramscher is announcing the launch of her first website. The author's son Andy did the artwork for the website/book cover, and her brother Mark engineered the site. They're very excited that this website is fully interactive so that readers can send in their comments, reviews, and answers to trivia questions as well as receive personal responses from the the author and artist. Hopefully, this site will become an online novel study that will inspire the reluctant YA reader to become an active participant in learning to appreciate literature. Radio Head
Tony King, author of Keep Moving, is to appear on the award winning Radio Leeds (voted best Regional UK Station), this Thursday (18th September). Tony is to be the guest on the Stations afternoon arts program and will discuss his book, his songwriting and some of his other varied interests. The author, who describes himself as having the perfect face for Radio, hopes that his appearance on the programme, with over 4 million listeners, will help increase book sales and spread the word about PA.

Book Ranking and Book Signing
Fallen Angels by RJ MacCurry has risen to 271,132 on 09-09-2003 in Barnes and Noble.com from its starting point of 625,411 on 08-18-2003. MacCurry will be doing a book signing sometime in September in Waldenbooks in Charleston, SC. He will be back in Asheboro, NC at Waldenbooks some time in October. Book signings are also being scheduled in Waldenbooks Stores in Greenville, NC for some time in October or November.

What a summer!!
It's been a wild two months since The Dead Angel was officially released on July 5, 2003. Carolyn Rowe Hill's first signing was on Saturday, July 12th, at Horizon Books in Petoskey, Michigan. The store manager ordered 50 books for the event and 41 of them sold in 2 hours. The rest sold by early the next week and more were ordered. By then the other bookstore in town ordered copies for their store. The other signings in July and August were at libraries and a combination mini golf and ice cream parlor. The book and author have been very well received wherever they've gone. Carolyn just returned from a very successful signing at the Musser Public Library in Muscatine, Iowa. The Muscatine Books and More bookstore also bought books for their shelves. Carolyn personally signed four copies of her book for four, young, city administrators who are in Iraq. The books will be included in a care package being sent to each soldier from the entire Muscatine community. It was a great opportunity to thank them for helping to make the world a safer place for everyone. Other signings are in the works. There will a good time for all at the mystery weekend signings at the Hexagon House in Pentwater, Michigan, the first two weekends in November.

Book Signing at Miamisburg Library
Jeff Ross will be hosting a book signing for his book, The Chosen. The Event will be held at the Miamisburg Library (near Dayton Ohio) on December 4, 2003 from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. Mr. Ross has recently been accepted by PublishAmerica on his second novel, The Burglar.

National Gary Awards Competition by Fiction Works
"Sully and Me", written by author Larnette Phillips, and recently released in soft cover by Publish America has won First Place in the National Gary Awards Competition by Fiction Works, a national audio book publisher. "Sully and Me" beat out 125 submissions to win first place. Her novel will be produced in audio book with full theatrical production, actors, sound effects and an original score. Larnette also carries home a beautiful trophy as First Place winner!

Under Disney Consideration
Networking is a beautiful thing and TJ Perkins just may finally be on the right track. With an agent friend in high places her books, Wound Too Tight and Mystery of the Attic, both published by PA, are on their way to a writer that works for Disney. Also under the Disney writer's scrutiny will be TJ's first book of an unpublished mystery/crime series for kids, Fantasies Are Murder, and an animation treatment of her idea of the 3rd Rescuers movie. Of course its all a gamble and there are no promises, but we wish TJ loads of luck on this venture.

Kentucky Book Fair
Fairleigh Brooks, author of Notes of a Would-Be Astronaut, will appear at the annual Kentucky Book Fair on November 8th, 2003 in Frankfort, KY. He recently taped an interview about his book for "On Second Thought," which will run on WFPL-FM radio in December. In other news his short story Miles from the Edge, Years from the End will appear in Tobacco Anthology, sponsored and published by Kentucky Writers' Coalition. He is also the recipient of the 2003 Leon V. Driskell Short Story Award, also sponsored by Kentucky Writers' Coalition. That story, Washing Dishes, will appear in Arable in spring 2004.

Internet Interview
Larnette Phillips, author of Sully and Me has given an Internet radio interview with former Emmy Award Winning CBS News Anchor, Chuck Englund. Larnette was interviewed by Chuck for "Inside Books" focusing on her new release Sully and Me.

Buddy Walk
Debbie Sherman has been asked to speak at the Portland BuddyWalk, to be held Oct. 11 in Portland, Oregon. Over 180 BuddyWalks will be held nationwide in October, in an effort to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome. Ms. Sherman will share a bit about her book, and along with another author, be selling her books throughout the walk.

Oklahoma city's Jack and Ron from KYIS FM 98.9 radio will interview Edward Motketsan on their popular morning show! Starting at 8:30am on Wednesday, September 17, 2003, DJs Jack Elliott and Ron Williams will welcome Edward during their morning show and discuss his latest novel While in Pursuit of the Perfect Ballad.

Presentation and Book Signing
Larnette Phillips, author of Sully and Me will conduct a presentation entitled "Marketing and Promotional Strategies for Aspiring Novelists" on October 11, 2003 in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the 2003 Festival of the Book. Christian ladies retreat
Mary Ann Kerl has three books published by PublishAmerica: The Secret, a Christian mystery for middle readers; Janessa's Clues to the Cabin Mystery, a Christian mystery for young adults; and The Proposal, a Christian romance for adults. She will be signing all three books at an annual Christian ladies retreat in Honobia, Oklahoma on October 24 and 25th. Kitty Carlisle to Read "Burning Books"
Kitty Carlisle, star of stage, screen and television, will read "Burning Books on Fenwick Street", by C. Lee Dravis. Ms. Carlisle is known for her decades of work on Broadway and appearances on shows such as "What's My Line?" and "To Tell the Truth". Ms. Carlisle was provided a copy of Dravis's second novel by Betty Lowe, a noted New York stage actress and friend of Kitty's. Ms. Lowe praised the novel and suggested that be adapted for the screen.

On the Mexican Radio
Border Literary Agent Rey Guy has announced his client Eduardo Paz-Martinez will visit radio stations on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border on Sept. 27 and 28. Mr. Paz-Martinez will sit with KBOR talk show legend Dr. G.F. McHale-Scully in Brownsville on Saturday morning, where the two will discuss his latest book - The Rain in Spain. On Sunday, the 28th, the Guy Agency has Paz-Martinez appearing on fabled border station XERF in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. Both of Mr. Paz-Martinez's books are set along the harsh Texas-Mexico border. The controversial Fort Worth-based author also attended a reception held in his honor Sept. 20 at the Casa Petrina Museum in Brownsville, where he signed copies of his books.

Mary T. Dresser (Stand Fast and Freedom's Cost) has delivered two lectures this September on early exploration of the Midwest and the crucial battle of Fallen Timbers. In October she has two more lectures scheduled at libraries in the Clearwater, Fl area.In January she will be signing books at Barnes & Noble and in February she will lecture at another library on Free Blacks and Native Americans in the Opening of the Midwest to Statehood. On September 16, 2003, R.E. Wood, author of Ritual of Death had his first book signing at the prestigious Book Revue in Huntington, New York. The evening event began with the author discussing his first novel. Fifty eight books were sold that night and between the people who bought the book at the event and those who bought their copies prior to the event a line of about eighty people snaked through the store as folks awaited an autograph. Further, Mr. Wood was interviewed by a reporter from the Advance, a local Long Island newspaper, and the article is due out soon.

The author of Suicide String now travels in disguise for security reasons. Burt Keimach's face does not appear on the Internet and will be blocked out on TV. On radio, his voice will be changed. When traveling he never stays in the same place twice, and he frequently changes cars. The sensitive nature of Suicide String, which is based on personal knowledge. Has prompted concerns for his safety. Regrettably there can be no public book signings.

Gus Filegar, author of Fathers, Sons, and Brothers, Book One, will do a booksigning for his Civil War epic at the Sharpsburg Heritage Festival September 13th and 14th, 2003. In conjunction with the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, this annual festival draws thousands of history minded people every year. Amy Lindenberger, the artist of the Civil War print, To Arms!,which graces the cover of Fathers, Sons, and Brothers will also be in attendance. Author and artist together . . . a truly grand affair!

Firstborn author to attend 2 festivals in September
Firstborn author Bruce Tiven will attend the 3 day festival Boats, Books and Brushes in New London, CT on September 5, 6, and 7, 2003. He will be in the Connecticut Authors and Publishers tent where he will be signing copies of his book. Copies will be available for purchase.
He will also be a guest on September 13, 2003 at the Lisbon Fall Festival, being held on the grounds of the Bishop House on Route 169 in Lisbon Center. The Lisbon fall Festival is sponsored by the Lisbon Hisorical Society. Tiven will be signing copies of his book and they will be available at the festival.

Connecticut author Tyrone Vincent Banks was interviewed by the CT Journal and his story is the lead story in the July 11, 2003 issue. International Conference on Family Care
Barbara Winters, author of My Time to Care was asked to attend the International Conference on Family Care held in Arlington, VA. September, 2002. She gave a brief synposis on her book and talked on care giving by family members and how it affects the whole family.
